Flight Attendant Ximena Suarez miraculously survived the accident
Ximena Suarez is one of 6 survivors that were rescued Monday night after the chartered flight crashed in a forested mountainside near Medellin (Colombia). The Bolivian Flight Attendant was part of the crew looking after the Chapecoense soccer team that was travelling from Brazil to Colombia for a final match against Atletico Nacional of Medellin.
The medical report states that Ximena suffered multiple fractures on her right leg, neck fracture, radius and ulna fracture, and head injury resulting in concussion, El Deber reported.
In a sad note, the rest of the crew comprised of 9 members passed away in the accident. Micky Quiroga (Captain), Omar Goitia (First Officer), Sisy Arias, (Relief Pilot), Erwin Tumiri (Engineer), and Flight Attendants: Rommel David Vacaflores, Alex Quispe, Gustavo Encina and Angel Lugo.
Among the survivors were Chapecoense defender Alan Ruschel, who doctors said suffered spinal injuries. Two goalkeepers, Marcos Danilo and Jackson Follmann, and Brazilian Journalist Rafael Henzel. All of them were taken to a local hospital. However Danilo died a short time later. There was a total of 81 souls on board.
LaMia, the operator of the crashed plane, said on its website that its three BAE 146s had a maximum range of around 2,965 kilometers. That’s about the same as the distance between Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and Medellin, the route the plane was flying when it went down. The range is not rigid and is dependent on a plane’s payload and fuel, The Telegraph reported.
